In Koblenz, I seemed to have been followed by an accordionist. I called him Gustav. Literally everywhere I went, this man was aslo there playing his accordion. He was the first thing I saw and heard upon arriving at Koblenz Hauptbahnhof.
My first day, I walked around and had beer at various places, there was some kind of festival happening, there was terrible German rap (music?) being performed and one of the biggest damn cakes I´ve ever seen.
The second day, I didn´t do much, I was exhausted. Mostly sat around and read my book.
Day three, I spent entirely outside. Following Gilles around the town. First through downtown Koblenz to the Altestadt (old city) I saw the house where my mom lived and the bar where my Grandparents screened XXX rated films... Along the river to the Deutche Eck, which is a huge monument of all the German states where the Rhine meets the Nekar (hence the title German Corner). In the gondola to the fort, where the Koblenz Hostel is, however under construction, so really just a gondola ride, which I wouldn´t have taken had I known the Fort were clos
My last dinner in Koblenz was absolutely perfect and if I´m ever there again I´m eating there everyday. It was a tiny cafe in this small little alleyway. Potted plants all around me, a nice spot of shade and Gustav playing a triplet around the corner.
At Hauptbahnhof, all ready to go to Mannheim, Gustav was there, he even smiled at me this time, either he recognized me or there was a cute girl behind me...
Thumbs up Koblenz!
