Sitting in Herr Lau's living room, the view from the living room is that of the famous TV tower (Fernsehturm), I am looking online at how much it would cost for me to get my butt over to Antwerp next week. Mike Inwood, my lighting designer pal will be there with a show he's been working on, I have a comp if I want and it's Mike Inwood! I haven't seen Mike since I went to New York in 2008, he has since graduated from Tisch and gotten married to a lovely lady named Pirronne. Train from Brussels to Antwerp is 13 Euros, and a flight to Brussels is 80 Euros, return. Not bad.
I flew back to Berlin on Monday, my flight was nauseatingly turbulent for a good hour and a half over Iceland and the UK. I tried to distract myself with one of the 26 movies I had the luxury of choosing from on my personal TV screen, but every time that flying hunk of metal lurched in the air thousands of miles above cold water I felt just a bit worse. I do however recommend the German film "Goethe!" It managed to distract me enough so that I felt I was just in a car on a bad stretch of road. I got to Berlin on Tuesday afternoon, thankfully, I knew the city well enough to get to where I was going. I think after such a long travel day I would have hated that feeling of "right, where am I?" I arrived and crashed on the couch until Marcus came home. I love post trip/flight chats.
That first day crash on the couch was a bad idea, I tend to try to stay up as long as I can but I was so tired I couldn't help it. I have now spent a good four days trying to get accustomed. I think I'm finally here today.
My one year project... Totally unrelated, but I have been thinking about Art School, for this I need a portfolio. I received a mini calendar from two students while back in Vancouver, I have decided that every day of this next year I will write out what happened, or my schedule in the little box. I started today and it was so much fun. I thought it would be a really interesting thing to look back at next January, and I would be able to see how much I did in one year. Even if the most noteworthy thing in a day was putting on a pair of cosy socks...
Portfolio project number one. The challenge will be taking the time to put an entry in every day and not miss a day or skip forward but I will try my very hardest.
